Trafford Council's first Green Skills Job Fair sows the seeds for careers of the future

Employers and training providers in the borough’s growing ‘green sector’ showcased exciting opportunities to attendees at Trafford Council’s recent Green Skills Job Fair.

Attending the event held in Stretford Public Hall, were a wide variety of employers showcasing careers that support the Council’s environmental goals, which include our Net Zero carbon emissions target, nature restoration and combating the climate crisis.

As well as the chance to meet green employers with immediate start vacancies, the event also provided careers advice, a green skills bootcamp, and information on working with electric vehicle charging equipment, retrofit skills, solar panels and smart home programming.

Nicola Houghton, one of the attendees, said: “Brilliant event! I came away with lots of resources and tangible opportunities to explore. This is a world I know nothing about, but every stand had fantastic, well-informed representatives and I feel so much more knowledgeable. Can't wait for the next one!”

Cllr Liz Patel, Lead Member for Economy and Regeneration, said: “It was fantastic to see so many people take this opportunity to explore what the green sector has to offer and hopefully take the first steps towards an exciting future.

“I would urge anyone who’s interested in a job that involves protecting the planet to make that leap and find out more about pursuing a rewarding environmental career.”

Andy Lord, Founder and Chief Executive of HydrogenSafe, an employer at the job fair, said: “The team at HydrogenSafe are passionate advocates for a greener future. The Green Skills Job Fair was a first of its kind in Trafford and we would hope the first of many. We were delighted to attend and, it's fair to say, surprised just how busy it was. Everybody that the team at HydrogenSafe chatted to had a real appetite to find work in the green sector and loved our free job board. We hope you have us back at the next event; we made some friends for life.”

Further events planned for people interested in green jobs are:

A tour of the Green Skills Academy on Trafford Park between 11am - 12noon on Monday 18 March followed by a tour of Trafford College’s Green Tech Hub between 1 - 2pm, both of which anyone can attend.

Trafford Council and partners are also looking at holding more Green Skills Job Fairs. For more details contact employment@trafford.gov.uk.
