Don't miss out on details about how to vote in elections, Trafford residents are urged

Letters are being sent out to every household in Trafford reminding people about how they can vote in May’s local elections.

The Household Notification Letters (HNL) detail how residents can register to vote, the different ways people can vote and the need to have ID when voting at a polling station.

This year’s elections on Thursday 2 May will see a third of seats up for election for Trafford Council, as well the Greater Manchester Combined Authority’s mayoral elections.

Sara Todd, Returning Officer for Trafford Council, said:

“We want as many people to vote as possible because the Council plays a large part in shaping Trafford so it’s important you can have your say.

“It only takes five minutes to register to vote – and even less to check to see if you are registered. Voting is a cornerstone of our democracy so please look out for your letters.”

Trafford Council has recently reviewed its polling districts and polling stations to make sure they are easily accessible to all residents. The HNL details the polling stations for each resident so people are aware.

Like last year, residents voting at polling stations are required by the government to bring photo ID with them. If residents don’t have an ID, the HNL details how they can apply for a Voter Authority Certificate. The HNL also details how residents can vote by post or by proxy if they prefer.
