Residents and business owners are being urged by Trafford Council Leader, Cllr Tom Ross, to give their views on exciting and ambitious plans to regenerate an important strategic area next to the Manchester ship canal.
Trafford Council has opened a public consultation into the Draft Trafford Wharfside Development Framework and Draft Trafford Wharfside Masterplan after it was approved by the Executive.
Produced in partnership with Manchester United, Peel, and Salford City Council, the Framework sets the vision for the Wharfside area and explains how it can better function ‘as a place’. The masterplan provides a more detailed assessment of the residential and commercial development potential in a number of identified plots. Both documents are focused on improving the environment of the area in terms of design, green spaces, connectivity and active travel.
The plans, which have identified a number of potential development sites, will be used to set an overall strategy to guide future development in the area. Nature and landscape are at the heart of the vision celebrating the Manchester Ship Canal waterfront and the Imperial War Museum. Opportunities for up to 5,000 high quality new homes have been created in the plan which will see Trafford Wharfside connected to the city centre.
Cllr Ross, along with the Council’s Chief Executive, Sara Todd, is part of a joint task force which was created to explore options for regenerating the Old Trafford area around the ship canal and Manchester United’s Old Trafford stadium.
Cllr Ross said: “These plans are extremely exciting and we have been working very closely with key partners Manchester United, Peel and Salford City Council to share them with the public. Wharfside is of huge importance due to its location, business base and regeneration potential and I would encourage as many people as possible to take part in our consultation.
“Your views are massively important to the Council and all our partners and we want you to help us shape the plans for the development of the Wharfside area. We want this area to be regenerated and revitalised and we are looking to you for your views. The plans will benefit all of the local community and provide a world class setting for Manchester United’s iconic stadium.”
The consultation, which closes on April 18, will give business and residents an opportunity to give their views on the regeneration of Trafford Wharfside - have your say on the Draft Trafford Wharfside Development Framework and Masterplan. A drop-in consultation will also be taking place on March 20 from 4.30pm-7pm at Hotel Football, 99 Sir Matt Busby Way, Old Trafford, M16 0SZ.
