Extra care housing

Part of: Housing and healthcare options

Extra care housing, or housing with care, gives you your own flat or bungalow with your own front door. You live independently, but staff are on-site 24 hours a day to provide care and support when you need it.

This type of housing may require an assessment of need. In some cases, you may also be able to access on-site support by arranging and paying for services privately.

Extra care properties in Trafford are equipped with technology to help you stay safe, feel reassured, and call for support when needed.

Support you may get:

  • On-site care staff 24/7
  • Personal care (help with washing, dressing, meals)
  • Emergency response if you need urgent help
  • Access to community and social activities within the scheme

Who extra care housing is for

Typical residents include:

  • Older adults (normally over 55) who may need regular care and support
  • People who want to keep their independence but have higher support needs than sheltered housing can provide, and also are not quite ready for the level of support in a care home
  • Adults with physical disabilities, sensory impairments, or long-term health conditions who would benefit from having staff nearby
  • Couples where one or both need care, but they want to stay living together
