Representations and objections
You or anyone else can make a representation about an application if it affects one or more of the licensing objectives:
- preventing crime and disorder
- protecting public safety
- preventing public nuisance
- protecting children from harm
Who can make a representation
Representations can be made by:
- responsible authorities, such as the police or environmental health
- interested parties, such as local residents or nearby businesses
Representations must relate directly to the licensing objectives. We cannot consider comments that are irrelevant, frivolous or made to cause delay.
How we handle representations
When we receive a relevant representation, we will consider the issues raised. If the representation comes from a resident or business, we will first decide if it is relevant before progressing.
If we decide the representation is not relevant, there will be no hearing. If no other relevant representations are received, the licence will be granted.
If we receive relevant representations, we will hold a Licensing Sub-Committee hearing. The applicant and anyone who made a representation will be invited to attend to explain their views before a decision is made.
You can read more about how we consider applications and representations in our Statement of Licensing Policy.
