Reducing emissions in Trafford
We declared a Climate Emergency in November 2018. Our target is for Trafford to be carbon neutral by 2038.
Becoming carbon neutral means reducing greenhouse gas emissions as much as possible and offsetting any that remain.
While 2038 sounds far off, not achieving deep emissions cuts now will only make the target harder to achieve.
Local data
Almost half of Trafford’s greenhouse gas emissions come from business and industry. Transport and domestic buildings are also large sources of emissions.
You can view a breakdown of Trafford's greenhouse gas emissions on GOV.UK, which publishes regional data for the two years before.
Greenhouse gas emissions in Trafford have fallen by 43% since 2005. However, the pace of emissions reductions needs to increase to meet our carbon neutrality target.
