Trafford Council has applied for planning permission to build 53 new homes on the Lacy Street car park and former Royal Mail sorting office and probation centre in Stretford.
The residential development, planned for the site opposite Stretford Mall, will deliver 25 per cent affordable, sustainable and thermally efficient housing.
The proposal that has been put forward by the Council introduces two, three and four-bedroom houses and two-bedroom apartments, with the tallest structures reaching a maximum height of 3.5 storeys. The designers on the scheme are Pozzoni architects.
The Lacy Street site forms part of the overall regeneration of Stretford outlined in the 2021 and 2024 Masterplan. Stretford Mall, across from the Lacy Street site, is currently being redeveloped by the Council in partnership with Bruntwood.
The Council has made providing a thriving economy and homes for all a corporate priority.
Cllr Liz Patel, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Economy and Regeneration, said: “This is a crucial site and forms part of the overall Stretford masterplan.
“We are applying for permission to build 53 new homes – 14 of which are affordable. The designs reflect feedback that we have had from residents in the consultation about the need to develop houses, as well as flats, and to open up access to the canal in the area.”
The application will be heard at a Council’s planning meeting in the near future.
