School pupils visit £450m Therme site during Trafford Green Careers Week

Teenagers from Sale visited TraffordCity’s forthcoming Therme Manchester Wellbeing Resort and dreamed up imaginative design ideas for the attraction during creative activity sessions.

Students from Manor Academy, Brentwood School and Trafford Alternative Education dropped in to the Therme Manchester Project Office at TraffordCity to learn about the exciting £450m project, which started construction in September, as part of Trafford Green Careers Week activities.

The resort’s construction partner, Sir Robert McAlpine, staged 4D design and architectural planning activities on paper for the visitors aged 14 to 16.

Fantastic ideas on the pupils’ drawing boards included a horror-themed splash park, bungee jumping, a BMX track and a beach as well as practical considerations such as staff areas and changing rooms.

The sessions were among many talks, visits and workplace try-outs organised by the Trafford Green Skills Group, chaired by Groundwork Greater Manchester and comprising Trafford Council, Trafford and Stockport College, the Green Skills Academy, Greater Manchester Combined Authority, and others.

The aim of Green Careers Week was to showcase careers that will help build a sustainable, green future and encourage students to think about their future working lives.

The 11.5-hectare wellbeing resort, due to complete construction in late 2028, will have water slides, wave pools, saunas, steam rooms one-to-one nutrition consultations, a selection of pool bars, restaurants and cafés.

Attractions will be set in a sustainable glass infastructure across three zones – play, relax and restore. The students’ visits were part of Therme Manchester’s ongoing educational outreach programme with local schools and colleges.

Cllr Liz Patel, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Economy and Regeneration said:

“The Council and partners have been delighted to bring opportunities like this one to Trafford school pupils. Visiting the Therme Manchester site gave students a unique perspective on this huge, exciting and sustainable development, and what it would be like to work in this sort of area. We’ve had some great events during Trafford Green Careers Week and we’re already planning how we can go bigger and better in 2026.”
