Project announcements
6 March 2026
Vegetation clearance work in the park is nearly done, and the wood from felling has been put to good use.
Woodchips have been used around the park for sustainable land management, with some donated to nearby allotments.
Brash (twigs, branches, clippings) is being used in the wildlife garden to create a dead hedge. Built by volunteers as part of their work experience, it will be a habitat for a host of small mammals and insects.
There are still a few tree stumps on site that will be removed when the machinery is next available, and a few piles of woodchip remain in the carpark near the Disc Golf intended for local use.
26 February 2026
Vegetation clearing and tree felling are underway and will be completed this week before the start of the bird nesting season.
Tree surgeons will still be on site next week, removing tree stumps, chipping wood and tidying up.
A tree planting programme will take place in the next available planting season (autumn/winter 2026) to replace the trees removed and boost wildlife biodiversity in the park. This will include 81 large standard trees along with new shrubs and native hedgerows.
You can read more about the upcoming work in our news section.
5 February 2026
We are pleased to announce that contractor Casey Group Ltd has been appointed to carry out the development of Longford Park, and a Pre-Construction Service Agreement is now in place.
Enabling works are due to begin before the end of the month to prepare for the upcoming improvements. This includes clearing vegetation and a small number of trees before the bird nesting season starts in March. You can view the location of the enabling works in the coming weeks on our map.
Most of the trees being cleared are British Standard Category C. This means they are of low quality or value. Many of them are in very poor condition and are at risk of becoming unstable in the future.
Further updates on the development will be available soon.
3 December 2025
The animals at Pets Corner are temporarily leaving their enclosures on December 19 to allow for their home to be refurbished and upgraded.
The two goats, chickens and ducks will vacate the site for farms in Cheshire, while work takes place to build their enclosures and protective coops. There will also be improvements to the soft landscaping of the area.
The animals are due to return to their newly renovated home in spring 2026. We will share announcements of their return here.
17 October 2025
The tender process for the project contractor is nearing completion and will be announced at the beginning of December 2025. Construction is due to start at the beginning of 2026. Detailed information about the development will be available here soon.
