The funding has been approved for the scheme. We are now able to take the scheme to the next stage.
What will be delivered
The final design has been refined following:
- consultation
- feedback from residents and stakeholders
- outcomes of the Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) consultation
The project includes:
- New and improved crossing facilities at key locations
- A new signal-controlled junction at Manchester New Road and Central Road
- New walking and cycling links along parts of Manchester Road and Warburton Lane
- Traffic calming measures on local roads
- New 20mph speed limits on Broadway, Chapel Lane and Lock Lane
- Improvements to bus stop infrastructure and accessibility
Delivery phase
Construction is expected to take place July 2026 and Summer 2027. It will be delivered in phases.
This will help reduce disruption and wherever possible maintain access for
- residents
- businesses
- public transport
- emergency services
Further information about construction timings and traffic management will be published before work starts.
