Young adult carers
Part of:
Support for carers
A young adult carer is someone aged 16 to 25 years old who helps look after a family member or friend who can’t manage without their support. Often, they have started caring as a child and continued into adulthood.
Young adult carers sometimes also take on additional responsibilities, like managing family budgets or providing emotional support.
Young Adult Carers Assessment
Young adult carers are legally entitled to a young adult carers needs assessment, which looks at their needs and the impact that their caring role is having on their wellbeing.
Anyone can make a referral for a young adult carer.
