Parent carers
Parent carers provide support to their children, including grown-up children who could not manage without their help.
When your child turns 18, they are legally an adult, but your caring role often continues. You may still help with daily living, managing health appointments or providing emotional and financial support.
As a parent caring for an adult, you have the right to receive support in your caregiving role.
Your rights as a parent carer
Like all carers, parent carers are entitled to a carer's assessment to find out what support they need and how this can be met. Find out more about carers' assessments.
You can get a carer's assessment even if the person you care for does not receive support from adult social care.
Support for the adult you care for
Your adult child may be eligible for their own care and support assessment. This looks at their needs and what services or support might help them live as independently as possible.
