Who can apply

Part of: Trafford Shop Improvement Grant

You must own or rent a ground‑floor shop in Trafford. Market stalls and temporary shops cannot apply.

If we have more applications than available funding, we will give priority to applications that:

  • improve what they offer customers
  • create new jobs
  • cut energy use or carbon emissions
  • pay in more of their own money
  • provide or upgrade accessible facilities
  • are in areas we have chosen as a priority

Eligibility

You must show documents that prove you can work in the UK.

Each business can get only one grant. If your 2025/26 application was refused, you can apply again only if your new application is much different.

We will not give grants to businesses that owe money to Trafford Council (for example, unpaid council tax or business rates) or that are in legal cases with the Council.

We will check if the total financial help you have had in 2024–2026, plus this grant, is more than £315,000 (this is the MFA limit).

You will be asked to provide details about any other funding you have received, including the source, amount, and date.

Examples of businesses that cannot apply

  • arms manufacturing or sales
  • pornography
  • payday loans
  • money transfer services
  • gambling and betting activities
  • charities
  • tobacco
  • vape shops
  • property investment

This list is not exhaustive.

A funding panel decides eligibility and has final say on which businesses are eligible.
