Next steps and related information
When you hold or apply for a personal alcohol licence, you may also need to take other steps or deal with connected licences.
Apply for or change a premises licence
If your business sells alcohol, provides entertainment, or serves hot food and drink between 11pm and 5am, the premises itself must also have a licence. A personal licence allows you to authorise sales, but it does not cover the premises.
Transfer or change a Designated Premises Supervisor (DPS)
Every premises that sells alcohol must have a DPS who holds a personal licence. If you are becoming or replacing a DPS, you will need to update the premises licence.
Appeal against the grant of a premises licence.
If your personal licence application is refused or conditions are added that you disagree with, you have the right to appeal to the magistrates court.
If you are unsure how to complete your application, you can pay for advice from our licensing team. They can review your documents, explain what evidence you need, and help you avoid delays.
