Evictions and repossessions
If you have received a letter from your landlord or lender, do not ignore it. It does not always mean you have to leave your home straight away.
In most cases, landlords and mortgage lenders must follow a legal process before someone can be made to leave their home. What rights you have will depend on the type of tenancy or mortgage you have.
Before taking any action, make sure you understand the letter you have received and keep copies of any notices, emails, or court documents.
Advice and support
You can use Shelter's tenancy checker to find out what type of tenancy you have. You can also find information about the eviction process on GOV.UK and the Shelter website.
If you do not understand the notice you have received, or are concerned that you may become homeless, contact HOST for advice.
An easy-read guide for people with autism is also available to help explain the eviction process and what support may be available.
