Trafford Local Plan approved for publication-stage consultation

The Local Plan sets out proposed land allocations, designations, planning policies and development-management policies for the borough over the next 15 years. 

It will now be published for a six-week period during which comments may be submitted before the Plan is sent for independent examination.

The Plan includes policies and proposals relating to housing, employment land, town centres, regeneration areas, environmental protection and climate resilience. It would sit alongside the Places for Everyone plan, which was adopted in 2024.

Places for Everyone identifies a requirement for Trafford to plan for 19,077 new homes, 469,000 square metres of industrial and warehousing floorspace and 157,000 square metres of office floorspace.

The Trafford Local Plan proposes over 20 sites for residential, employment and other development purposes, in addition to the Davenport Green and New Carrington allocations in Places for Everyone.

Proposed sites include Trafford Waters, Pomona and the former Stretford Mall site.

Details of the consultation, including how to view the documents and submit comments, will be available on the Council’s website.

A Trafford Council spokesperson said: 

“The publication-stage consultation is part of the statutory plan-making process. Comments received during the consultation will be considered before the Plan is submitted for independent examination.”
