How to submit a petition
Before submitting a petition, you may want to check with your local councillor or contact us to confirm that we are the right organisation to deal with your concern.
You should also check whether there is already an existing e-petition covering the same issue.
What counts as a petition
A petition is a written request that:
- is signed by the required number of eligible people, or
- is created as an e-petition using our website or another petition platform
We will treat a submission as a petition if it is clearly intended to be one.
What your petition must include
Your petition must include:
- a clear statement of what action you want the Council to take
- the name, signature, and address of each signatory
- contact details for the petition organiser
The petition organiser is the person we contact about how we will respond.
If no organiser is named, we will contact the first signatories to agree who will act as organiser.
The organiser’s contact details are not published.
Once a petition has been submitted, additional signatures cannot be added.
