How we may respond

Depending on the subject and number of signatures, our response may include:

• taking the action requested
• considering the petition at a council meeting
• carrying out research or consultation
• holding a public meeting
• meeting with the petitioners
• referring the issue to an Overview and Scrutiny Committee
• writing to the organiser with our response

If the issue is outside our control, such as rail or hospital services, we may make representations to the relevant organisation.

If we cannot take action, we will explain why.
