About the project
An Active Neighbourhood aims to help residents to make short trips on foot, by cycle or by public transport, instead of jumping in their car. Active Neighbourhoods also seek to make our roads a safer place for all users.
Active Neighbourhoods be achieved through:
- New crossings, walking and cycling facilities
- Introduction of measures around schools to improve road safety
- Measures to prevent ‘rat running’ in residential streets
- More walking and cycling routes connecting communities
- Prioritising the movement of people over vehicles
- Environmentally friendly community spaces
The Walton Road area was selected due to historic issues in the area with ‘rat running’ on Walton Road and surrounding streets.
Other reasons for choosing the area included:
- Opportunity to enhance access to Walton Park
- Speeding vehicles on Langdale Road and Walton Road
- Opportunity to improve access to local services
Community engagement
In February and March 2022, the community was invited to an engagement event. Draft plans were discussed, as well as the mailout and survey.
Project status
This project was paused at concept design. It will not progress until we are in a much stronger position to secure future funding.
