About the study
A study to see what changes can be made to the junction to create active travel facilities.
The A56 is a key route linking the town centres of:
- Altrincham
- Sale
- Stretford
It also serves as a strategic route into Manchester City Centre and Salford.
This route is heavily car dominated. We want to encourage more sustainable transport modes, such as :
- walking
- cycling
- public transport
Project outcomes
From the study, two viable options were identified:
- Option 1: One-way cycle gyratory – viable option with minimal impact on traffic flows.
- Option 2: Two-way cycle gyratory – may be preferable if the traffic modelling supports it as it provides the highest quality cycle facilities.

The feasibility study has been completed.
