About the project
The improvements were to provide and enhance a safe walking and cycle route linking:
- Stretford
- Trafford Park Rail Station
- Trafford Park
- Media City
- The Lowry Theatre and retail
- Bridgewater Way
- Old Trafford Stadia (football and cricket grounds)
- NCN55
- Metrolink (New Trafford Park link)
The project was part of the Mayor’s Challenge Fund (MCF) supported by Transport of Greater Manchester.
Scheme timeline
- January 2019 – Scheme proposed for MCF funding
- August 2020 - Development Funding Approved
- November 2021 - Initial Design Review Approved
- June/July 2022 - Stakeholder Consultation
- December 2022 - Scheme was split into two phases in an attempt to aid delivery are numerous land issues. Phase 1 consists of the east-west cycle track between Village Circle and Sir Matt Busby Way inclusive and Phase 2 is the north-south element
- July 2023 – All of Trafford’s MCF schemes reprioritised to focus on delivery.
Consultation
We held a consultation on this project from 6 June to 17 July 2022.
Project status
This scheme was paused at concept design stage, until funding becomes available.
