Adult social care privacy notice
Read this alongside the Trafford Council privacy notice for information that applies to all services.
This page explains how Adult Social Care (ASC) collects and uses your personal information.
What information we collect
We may collect:
- Your name, address, date of birth and contact details
- Information about your health, care needs and support network
- NHS number and other unique identifiers
- Financial information to assess eligibility for care funding
- Details about your family, carers or advocates
- Records of meetings, assessments and care plans
We may also collect special category data such as:
- Racial or ethnic origin
- Religious or philosophical beliefs
- Sexual orientation
Why we collect your information
We use your information to:
- Assess your care and support needs
- Plan, arrange and review care services
- Safeguard individuals at risk of harm
- Manage care contracts and payments
- Meet our legal duties under the Care Act 2014 and other laws
- Monitor the quality of services and improve how we work
Our lawful basis
The main legal bases we use are:
- Public task – to carry out our duties under the Care Act 2014 and related legislation
- Legal obligation – to meet our safeguarding duties and other statutory requirements
- Vital interests – where it is necessary to protect someone’s life
For special category data, we rely on:
- Health and social care purposes – under UK GDPR Article 9(2)(h)
- Safeguarding purposes – under UK GDPR Article 9(2)(g) and Schedule 1 of the Data Protection Act 2018
Who we share your information with
We may share your information with:
- Other council teams, such as safeguarding, housing and finance
- NHS organisations, including GPs, hospitals and community health teams
- Care providers and voluntary organisations who deliver services to you
- Regulators and auditors, such as the Care Quality Commission
- Other local authorities, if your care arrangements involve them
- Police or other agencies, if needed for safeguarding or crime prevention
We only share what is necessary and will always do so securely.
How long we keep your information
We keep Adult Social Care records for eight years after the end of your care provision, or until you reach age 26 if you were under 18 when the record was created.
In some cases, we may need to keep records longer for legal or safeguarding reasons.
Automated decision‑making
Adult Social Care does not make decisions about you based solely on automated processing.
