Data Accelerator – Supporting Families privacy notice

This page explains how we collect and use personal information for the Data Accelerator – Supporting Families programme.
What information we collect
We may collect:
- Name, address, date of birth and contact details for children, parents and carers
- Information about family members and household circumstances
- Education records, including attendance and attainment
- Health information, including mental health and disability data
- Social care and safeguarding records
- Housing and tenancy details
- Information about employment, benefits and income
- Police and criminal justice information, where relevant to the programme’s aims
This may include special category data and criminal offence data, which is more sensitive and requires extra protection.
Why we collect your information
We use your information to:
- Identify families who may benefit from additional support
- Coordinate services across different agencies to provide that support
- Monitor and evaluate the outcomes of the programme
- Meet our legal duties under the government’s Supporting Families framework
Our lawful basis
The main legal bases we use are:
- Public task – to carry out our duties under the Supporting Families programme and related legislation
- Legal obligation – to comply with statutory requirements for safeguarding and service delivery
- Vital interests – where necessary to protect someone’s life
For special category data, we rely on:
- Health or social care purposes – under UK GDPR Article 9(2)(h)
- Safeguarding purposes – under UK GDPR Article 9(2)(g) and Schedule 1 of the Data Protection Act 2018
For criminal offence data, we rely on:
- Substantial public interest – for the prevention or detection of unlawful acts and to protect the public
Who we share your information with
We may share your information with:
- Other council teams, such as education, housing and social care
- NHS organisations, including GPs, hospitals and community health services
- Schools and early years providers
- Police and probation services
- Voluntary and community organisations providing family support
- Central government departments for monitoring and evaluation purposes
We only share what is necessary and will always do so securely.
How long we keep your information
Records for the Supporting Families programme are kept for six years after the case is closed, unless there is a legal requirement or safeguarding reason to keep them longer.
Automated decision‑making
The programme does not make decisions about you based solely on automated processing.
