About Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs)

A Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) is a legal document enabling the Council and the Police to regulate and restrict the use of public roads, including:

  • Parking restrictions (single and double yellow lines)
  • No right or left turns
  • Weight restrictions
  • Speed limits

  • Loading bays
  • Red Routes and Red Route Clearways

Why we use TROs

TROs can benefit our residents and businesses in a number of ways, for example:

  • Helping the flow of traffic
  • Improving road safety
  • Preventing damage to roads

How to apply for a TRO

If you are working on the highway and need to apply for a you will need to complete a temporary Traffic Regulation Order request.

The costs involved with making the Order as well as that for any necessary signing is met by the person or organisation requesting the Order.

As there is a legal and consultative process to be undertaken, at least six weeks notice is required.
